The technology of imbedding a sensor in a tire to help prevent an auto accident could be just around the corner.  The project is being led by Saied Taheri, director of the Center for Tire Research and associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. They are developing and testing tire and vehicle related sensory systems and control algorithms that will detect changes in pavement conditions, traffic patterns, speed and distance from other vehicles.
